Here's an update:

My situation in Houston improved somewhat when I entered the Magnificat houses the final weekend of August. I am staying in one of their transitional housing facilities on the East End (Second Ward) of Houston. In exchange for room and board I am working 30 hours per week in the Loaves and Fishes soup kitchen, which serves the homeless population of downtown Houston.

The house contains myself, two house managers and about ten or so other residents, some of them on parole, all trying to find work and get on with their lives.

Once a week, I am free to take care of job searching and other errands. My brother in California has been assisting me here and there with funds to help me get small things done. I'm actively seeking work, but it has to be high-quality work and relatively high-paying work.
